POLLS HAVE BEEN showing a steep decline of Zapatero's popularity and approval rate, but the latest one actually shows him behind the PP and finds it would win if an election was held today. By a small margin, to be sure, but the incumbent should be leading the results much more comfortably. And that's before any poll reflects the growing tension around the waves of illegal immigrants storming in Ceuta and Melilla, the confusing relationship with Morocco, and the situation created by Catalonia's new regional covenant. It seems there's still a good chance that his approval rate will erode further. Actually some of the media who used to worship him are starting to look at him under a not always flattering light.
