THIS VIDEO is really interesting: an interview with three former Islamic terrorist who turned their lives around and now are advocating against violence.

Oh, and by the way, sorry for such light blogging. I promise I'll behave after Labor day, if not sooner.

WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE?
Children were the latest victims as the crisis deepened in Sri Lanka. The United Nations children's organisation, Unicef, said a number of children were killed in a government air strike on territory held by the Tamil Tiger rebels.

The Tigers claimed that the air strike hit an orphanage in the north-eastern Mullaitivu district and that 61 schoolgirls were killed, and 155 injured. Unicef could not confirm the Tigers' figures, but had been able to establish that "children were injured and killed", said Junko Mitani, a spokeswoman for Unicef's Sri Lanka office.
True, the number of casualties came from the Tamil themselves, who may be attempting the same gimmick that worked so flawlessly in Qana. I'm sure they were expecting that all the "genocide", "holocaust" cries from biempensants from all over the world would be heard from them. I bet they were expecting Tamil flag-waving demonstrations all over the world's capital.

How naif of them. They'd need to have Jews among their ranks for that.

"DISARM HEZBOLLAH BY FORCE, IF YOU ARE MEN!" That's how Mohammad Fneish (Lebanon's Minister of Energy, and one of two Hezbollah in the cabinet), dared his colleagues in the meeting where they deliberated whether to comply with the UN Security Council resolution or not. It's a Pajamas Media world exclusive from a source within the Lebanese government, no kiddin'.

IRAN IS TRYING to import large quantities of uranium from the same Tanzanian mine where the material used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki came from, The Times (London) writes. The information is based in a UN report and you know that if even the UN admits it (you know, the organization whose human rights commission is presided by the mad mullahs), it must be much, much worse.

Oh, and by the way, I'd like to send a special message for Joe Wilson: there are more suppliers of uranium than Niger. The fact that when you were sipping sweet green tea no government official admitted that they were approached by Saddam (barring the possibility that they simply lied... would they admit it?) doesn't mean that Saddam couldn't get it from somewhere else in the continent.

IS REUTERS DOCTORING PICTURES taken in Lebanon? The evidence seems pretty conclusive: start by this post by LGF, then follow the links in the 03:04 PDT update of this post at Pajamas Media.

This might well be another Rathergate-like scandal, and again it's Charles Johnson who stirred it. Hey, his wall is going to be full with MSM-heads as trophies!

UPDATE. Reuters has apparently killed the picture (see 04:29 PDT update)

THUS FOUGHT HEZBOLLAH:
TYRE, Lebanon - When Dr. Fouad Fatah emerged bleary-eyed from the ruins of his hospital during a pause in Israeli air strikes last week, it felt like the first time in forever.

He counted himself as the last living soul in the five-room clinic, the only hospital serving this devastated swath of Lebanon's south. His surviving patients had already been evacuated.

The surgeon led a group of journalists over what remained: mangled debris, shredded walls and a roof punched through by an Israeli shell.

"Look what they did to this place," Dr. Fatah said, shaking his head. "Why in the world would the Israelis target a hospital?"

The probable answer was found a few hours later in a field nearby. Hidden in the tall grass were the burned remnants of a rocket-launcher.

Confronted with the evidence, Dr. Fatah admitted his hospital could have been used as a site from which to fire rockets into Israel.

"What choice to we have? We need to fight back from somewhere," he said, tapping his foot on the ground.
UPDATE. Related information, and the angle chosen by the MSM, here.

IF WE WISH TO LEARN what was going on in Europe in 1938, just look around, writes Victor Davis Hanson. In another piece, he says that the trouble in the Middle East is not about land, but Islamists feeling their reputation is at stake; words like "honor" and "pride."

PRESCIENT WORDS from Eric Hoffer -a non-Jewish, like yours truly- who back in 1968 wrote:
The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it, Turkey threw out a million Greeks, and Algeria a million Frenchman. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese-and no one says a word about refugees.

But in the case of Israel the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab.

Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis. Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious it must sue for peace.
Don't miss the rest, since it firmly puts a nail in the head of the most over-used meme now, during the war between Israel and Hezbollah and the alleged brutality of the former: criticizing Israel is not being anti-Semitic, we're told by whoever want to appear as objective an evenhanded. As a principle, it isn't, that's true. But it becomes anti-Semitic when you criticize Israel for things that you fogive all other countries when they do. It's the double standard what makes the criticism -and Israel shouldn't be shielded from criticism- anti-Semitic.

IT HAD TO HAPPEN sooner or later:
One of Italy's most popular Adriatic Sea resorts, Riccione, is set to open the country's first beach exclusively for Muslim women. The city administration has approved an unprecedented measure this week providing for a beach from which men will be banned and fitted with tents to safeguard the privacy of Muslim women who want to sunbathe and swim without having to do so fully clothed as Islamic custom prescribes. Female lifeguards will also be provided.
As you can see, Europe is heading to modernity, to a new Enlightment. I'm so proud.
